"...I chose the impossible. I chose... Rapture. A city where the artist would not fear the censor. Where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality. Where the great would not be constrained by the small. And with the sweat of your brow, Rapture can become your city as well."
―Andrew Ryan
You suddenly jolt awake, a crackle of electricity running over your body as you try to clear your vision and the thumping in your head. You feel terrible--the worst you have in a long time--and it's almost too much to lift your head, but you somehow find the strength just as your vision clears. Your hand's pressing up against the fogged glass you didn't realise you were behind before it's suddenly lifted up, your container spitting you rather unceremoniously out onto the ground. It takes you a moment to compose yourself, the distinct crackling of a record player greeting you as you lay there, a huge wall of water stretching up to the ceiling, sea life swimming past the window. You look around and realise you're in an abandoned arrivals hall, suitcases, broken glass, tickets and leaflets littering the floor as if the people had to suddenly evacuate. Lavish and extravagant architecture ranging from the 20's to the 50's lays in crumbling decay and the smell of rusting metal and damp hits you suddenly as you look around, the flashing of neon signs dimly flitting on and off down a corridor. Somewhere above you a tanoy chimes in, and a cheerful woman crackles over the pa system.
"Welcome to Rapture! Please mind your step and please feel free to visit our information booths to purchase any information and city maps that you may need. And remember! Opportunity awaits!"
The room goes quiet, only the crackling of the ambience music and the uncomfortable creaking of metal straining from the pressure all around you as you explore. Any strength or powers that you might've had in your own world seem to be out of reach--try as you might, you feel too drained and disoriented to use them. The place seems to be devoid of all life, but you just can't shake the feeling that you're very much not alone.
